Robert Firth
105104, Private. b 1900.d 3rd December 1918, aged 18.
A Clayton lad, Robert had lived with his mother at 13, Lane End in the centre of the village before being conscripted in 1918. He was placed in the 3rd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, a reserve unit that never saw action overseas.
By this time most of these reserve units were used as holding camps for those either too young or too old to fight abroad. It is most likely Robert died in an accident during training – shooting accidents were not uncommon during this period.
Robert is buried in Clayton Baptist Chapelyard, Clayton, Bradford.
