JORDAN, Walter

Walter JORDAN

Walter JORDAN

16/1186, Private. b. Leeds d. Sat. 1st July 1916.

Another of the soldiers who died with the Pals, Walter trained with all the others from Clayton all the way from September 1914 to their final stand in July 1916.

Unfortunately, none of Walter’s personal details have survived the test of time, and the only insight available is his serial number.

It shows he joined up just before the 2nd Bradford Pals were formed (serial numbers were given out in Pals battalions as virtually a ‘first come, first served’ basis) and that he was just lucky enough to be placed with the first battalion, and with many of his friends.

He is shown as ‘Killed In action, France and Flanders 1st July 1916’ in Bradford Pals by Ralph Hudson.

He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Belgium.
