SHARPE, Fred

Fred SHARPE

38291, Private. b. 1880, Bradford d. Mon. 2nd March 1917 (aged 37).

Another older member of the forces, Fred had been conscripted in early 1916 and on arriving in France was placed in the 1st Bradford Pals as one of the reinforcements that was vital to the unit’s survival after its 1st July massacre.

He stayed in ‘A’ Company of the Pals for just under eight months before being hit by a stray shell in March 1917, a time that was by all accounts relatively quiet on the Western Front.

He was the son of John and M.A. Sharpe of Queensbury and the husband of Florence Sharpe of 7, Back Lane, Clayton Heights.
